Location and housing

AUSTIN SEMINAR LOCATION.

In order to provide more and better space for participants in the meeting room, convenient and inexpensive hotel space, and greater capacity, the Austin Actuarial Seminars have moved from their traditional location to a new place. Austin Seminars are held in the Ladybird meeting room of the Austin La Quinta Inn-Capitol in downtown Austin at 300 E. 11th Street (512/476-1166). Day parking is available for $6; 24-hour parking for overnight guests is $13. Clicking on the La Quinta link above will show you a picture of the hotel entrance as seen from Red River Street; access to the stairs to the second floor Ladybird Room is via the dark doorway you see facing you to the left of the blue La Quinta sign.

AUSTIN HOUSING.

Registrants must arrange their own housing accommodations; especially convenient, of course, is the Austin La Quinta Inn-Capitol where the seminar is held. Click on the Austin La Quinta Inn-Capitol to locate information on the hotel, nearby restaurants and places of interest, et cetera. The hotel has free continental breakfast and free in-room high-speed internet access. [Prior to August 2007, a few people complained that the La Quinta was a little shabby. During August 2007, an $8,000,000 renovation was conducted (September for our meeting room)—new paint, carpets, mattresses, and linens, with microwaves, mini-fridges, and crown molding added to each room. It's not the Ritz-Carlton, but it's presentable.] There will usually be a group rate available to those attending the Seminars, although a football game or other special event might preclude that on some of the days; to obtain any special rate, you must call the Austin La Quinta Inn-Capitol sales office directly at 512/476-1166 X5518 (Sales) and request a booking at the rate for the Daniel Seminars. Book early: fall Saturdays often have a home football game, and spring in Austin has many activities that attract hordes of visitors.
